MEMENTO MORI: Latin for “Remember, you will die,” is the philosophical embodiment of the Stoics of classic antiquity, a humble and somewhat macabre reminder to live a virtuous life.
The Mememento Mori collection features remastered illustrations from a 16th century rendering of the Danse Macabre (Dance of the Dead). It was one of only two books known to have been bound in human skin and featured John Lydgate’s 1430 translations from Latin and illustrated by Hans Holbein’s woodcuts.
Roughly every century, this series is remade and published, bringing new life to the reminder that we all lease our time from Death.
